Cold Weather Tips 

Happy Winter!  As winter approaches and temperatures drop, the following tips are important to keep your student(s) safe and help prevent frostbite:

  • Dress in layers with two to three layers of clothing. If possible, your top layer should be wind-resistant and waterproof or water-repellent.

  • Protect exposed skin. The parts of the body most commonly affected by frostbite include: fingers, toes, nose, ears, cheeks and chin area.

  • Hats are crucial in keeping the body warm and protecting the very thin and sensitive ears.

  • Wear scarves or masks to protect the face/chin. These will also help warm some of the cold air as it enters the respiratory tract.

  • Cover hands with mittens/gloves that are banded at the wrist and go under the sleeve to prevent exposure of the wrist area.

  • Footwear should be insulated and water-repellent.

  • Your child should have an extra set of dry clothing, including socks in their backpack/locker.

  • Remember that spending prolonged time outside can be dangerous(for you and your children) so please exercise caution

  •  Lastly, we ask everyone to be even more alert while driving near the schools since the need for additional layers of hats, scarves, or hooded outerwear may impair students traffic sight lines.
