Learning Opportunities and Resources

During these extended school closures, the Needham Public Schools are following guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).  DESE acknowledges that it is not possible to replicate the full experience of school remotely, and therefore is not recommending or requiring attendance, grading, or accountability for time on learning while schools are closed.  Instead, DESE has encouraged every district to provide resources and to remain as engaged as possible with students and families in an effort to help maintain continuity of learning experiences for students and a connection to classmates and teachers during the period of closure.

Many of you are eager to hear about the learning options and resources that will be available for your children while schools are closed.  Beginning on Monday, March 23, 2020,  the Needham Public Schools will be providing resources and opportunities for all students to maintain continuity of learning. Our approach to remote learning reflects explicit direction districts across the state have received from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).  We recognize that these online experiences cannot replicate the day-to-day school experience, nor can they be a substitute for the in-person experiences, interactions and supports that our schools provide for our students.

That said, we remain committed to our partnership with families to keep our students engaged socially, emotionally, and academically.  All of the learning opportunities we provide are recommended, yet not required. We are here to support you!
