Volunteer Party
About once a month, the Science Center will put out the call for a group of volunteers to come help us. We need people who can measure, cut, count, paste, and don't mind getting a little messy. The tasks are easy, and we're happy to bribe you with munchies. We usually meet at the Science Center (Newman School) on a weekday between 10am and noon. If you want to join the party, feel free to call the Science Center at 781 455-0475.
Volunteers with Special Skills
If you have a special skill, interest or hobby that you would like to share, we would love to have you. We need specialized help with:
  • Designing, building and maintaining equipment for science curriculum kits
  • Librarians - to help us data entry our print collection into Infocentre
  • Gardening - Lead/assist with gardening projects at our elementary schools
  • Organizers - to help inventory and refurbish kits
  • Curriculum Content Experts - We need content experts in science and engineering on our curriculum development team - help us provide accurate up-to-date content information, editing support and more
  • Retired teachers - to instruct our after school clubs and preschool workshops
Live Animal Care
Do you love animals? Are the kids asking you for a pet but you are reluctant to commit? Consider becoming a Science Center Weekend Animal Volunteer. You and you child/ren will get to experience a room full of exotic animals to love, nuture and feed. Science Center staffers will train you on proper care, feeding and socializing techniques. You can choose to schedule as many weekends as you like. Most families finish feeding our entire collection in 1.5 hours.

Summer Animal Care
When the Science Center Closes for the Summer, our live animals need somewhere to go. We will provide you with printed care instructions, a cage, initial food supply, and emergency contact information. Animals go to homes on a first come, first serve basis. Interested call the Science Center at 781-455-0475.

Our wonderful and talented volunteer, David Loomis, designed and built two wooden storage units to house the Science Center's poster collection.

Attention teachers: We have lots of posters featuring all sorts of science topics. Search for posters through the Science Centeronline library, or come browse the collection in person.
