School Committee

The Needham School Committee is comprised of seven elected members serving three-year terms. The Committee acts as the policy-making body of the Needham Public Schools. The Needham School Committee derives its authority from the Education Reform Act of 1993, CH. 71. S. 37:
"The School Committee in each city and town and each regional school district shall have the power to select and terminate the Superintendent; shall review and approve budgets for public education in the district; and shall establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district, consistent with the requirements of law and state-wide goals and standards established by the Board of Education."

The Committee generally meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. in the Broadmeadow Performance Center unless otherwise posted.  Meetings are also broadcast by Needham Cable Television and may be viewed online.

The School Committee values input from the community and offers an opportunity for the public to speak to the School Committee on matters not on the agenda at the beginning of each meeting.  Community members may ask questions, make recommendations, and offer suggestions at that time.

The following are the current district goals as approved by the Needham School Committee.
