The middle school wellness program serves as a natural progression, building upon the foundational knowledge, skills, and behaviors acquired in grades K-6. This program plays a crucial role in preparing middle school students for a seamless transition into their high school journey. Comprising Health Education, Physical Education, and Experiential Education, the middle school segment of our K-12 comprehensive wellness initiative offers a holistic perspective on human health and well-being. While each course is taught independently, they all adopt a multidimensional approach, collectively contributing to students' continuous development of the essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for engaging in an active, healthy lifestyle.
Health Education
Health Education is required for students in grade 7 and 8. Students meet in their health classes every other day for one trimester (approximately 20 lessons). The overall theme of the middle school health program is Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness. The goal of the Health Education Program is to promote healthy behaviors and a dedication to wellness. Through a carefully developed series of interactive lessons, students are introduced to a wide variety of health topics. Teachers facilitate class discussions and learning activities that provide students with opportunities to learn and practice social and emotional skills, increase their knowledge, and develop healthy attitudes.
Physical Education
Physical Education is a mandatory component of the curriculum for students in grades 7 and 8. Our program is tailored to cater to the unique needs of middle school children, fostering their healthy development during this pivotal phase. By incorporating a diverse range of activities such as team sports, cooperative games, adventure challenges, fitness exercises, and racket sports, we aim to enhance students' individual motor skills, boost their fitness levels, and promote the refinement of their social and emotional aptitudes. We prioritize encouraging every student to explore various activities and nurture their passion for those they find most enjoyable. As students gain proficiency in their chosen pursuits, they derive greater enjoyment from them. Our goal is to inspire all students to discover their personal moments of joy in physical activity, fostering a lifelong commitment to movement.
Experiential Education
Experiential Education is offered to students in grade 7. Using a variety of teacher directed challenge activities, students actively participate in the teaching/learning process. With the teacher’s guidance, students plan, organize, and carry out projects, trips, activities, etc., evaluate their success, and reflect upon their own personal experience of the process. At the core of this program is the student's need for a safe, risk-taking environment which fosters appreciation of differences and promotes individual contribution, commitment, and follow through.
