Yellow Bus Transportation

Bus registration for the 2023/24 School Year will open on April 4, 2023 @ 8am.

All Needham resident families must register their student for the bus, regardless of mileage from school, age or fee status. Boston-resident students participating in the METCO program register for transportation through the METCO office, whereas students with IEPs who receive transportation as a related service are registered automatically.  If you are a Boston resident student, click the link for METCO Program Transportation for more information about the bus.  For more information on how to qualify for special services transportation click the link for Special Services Transportation.

We offer two methods for registering for the bus: online registration using MySchoolBucks and traditional registration.  Online registration (described below) is a fast and efficient method of registering, but does require a credit card to complete the process and a transaction fee will be assessed.  Alternatively, families may register by completing and returning the registration form with their payment, to the Transportation Office at 28 Glen Gary Rd, Needham MA 02492 via mail.

Please note that registering your child does not guarantee that you will get a seat on the bus.  Registrations will be processed in the order they are received.  A wait list will be developed once a particular bus has reached its capacity.  In the event that a particular bus is full, you will be notified in writing that you have been placed on a waiting list and you will not be charged at this time.  When/if seats become available the Transportation Department will notify those on the waiting list in the order they were placed, in writing. Wait lists are typically reviewed after October 1st.  We will do everything we can, throughout the summer to find a seat for everyone.

During the registration process you will need to know your child’s:
Eligibility status for free transportation. You can check to see if your K-6 student qualifies for free transportation (over two miles from school) by clicking this eligible street listing link.  Find the school your child attends, then locate your address within the listing.  If your address does not appear on the list, your student is not eligible for free transportation and must pay a fee.  If you do not find your address and feel that a mistake has been made, please contact the Transportation Office at 781-455-0400 x11242 or email [email protected].  Please note that incorrectly specifying your child’s eligibility status on the registration form may delay processing.
Eligibility for financial assistance (if applicable.) If you wish to apply for financial assistance, please click this link for more information on the types of financial aid available and the application process.  Families who wish to apply for financial assistance must complete and return the financial assistance form, the completed bus registration form and payment, to the Transportation Office at 28 Glen Gary Rd, Needham MA 02492 via mail or in person.

If you choose to register online, please note that all students, regardless of eligibility status will be asked to enter payment information by the system:
If your student is eligible for free transportation, your card will not be charged.  The Transportation Office will remove the charges when your child’s registration is processed and the “hold” on your funds will be released.  Processing your registration may take up to 48 hours.  You will not be assessed a service fee if charges are removed. If the payment hold represents a hardship for your family, please register your child using the  contact the Transportation Office and at 781-455-0400 x11242 or email [email protected], and request that the registration be processed without a credit card.
If your student is fee-based, you may pay the bus fee online using MySchoolBucks or in person at the Transportation Office (28 Glen Gary Rd, Needham MA 02492)  Please note that that there are services fees associated with using MySchoolBucks as noted on their website. If you experience financial hardship, please use the paper form.
